BOSTON TRAVEL GUIDE

Updated: May 30, 2024

Heading on a New England road trip? Make sure to add Boston to your list! I headed to Boston during the fall and it was an experience I will never forget. The colors were absolute magic and it really brought the city to life. No matter the season Boston has so much to offer. Below you will find a guide to all my favorite things to do, places to see, and of course foods to try!

HOW LONG IN BOSTON

We stayed for 3 nights and had plenty enough time to visit all the sites we wanted to see. Although we made this into a long weekend, one to two nights is enough time to explore all this city has to offer.

EXPLORE BOSTON

BOSTON COMMON

Boston Common is a public park which is perfect for picnics, riding bikes, morning walks, and throwing a frisbee. While staying in Boston we stayed in Beacon Hill which was half a mile away from the common. We brought our dog on this trip so staying so close to the park was the perfect move. The park is an off-leash dog area which our dog Koda enjoyed very much! Running around here and catching the frisbee was her favorite part of the trip!

BOSTON GARDENS

This garden is something straight out of a story book and was probably my favorite things about Boston. It was nice to get away form the hustle and bustle and just sit by the pond and take everything in. I love strolling city gardens and this garden was so big and picturesque that I could explore it for hours! It is the perfect place to feed the ducks, listen to music by the amazing performers, pack a picnic, and go for an afternoon stroll.

And don't forget to check out the "Make Way for Ducklings" statues!

BEACON HILL

Strolling Beacon Hill was one of my favorite things to do in Boston. Our hotel was located here so I couldn’t help but imagine myself living in this charming neighborhood. I am a sucker for brick buildings and houses, so I was in love at every corner!

THE FREEDOM TRAIL

If you enjoy the historical side of travel be sure to put The Freedom Trail at the top of your list! The freedom trail starts at the Boston Common and ends at Bunker Hill. It is a total of 2.5 miles one way so don't forget your walking shoes!

Here are a few of my favorite stops on the Freedom Trail:

Old South Meeting House

Old State House

Boston Massacre Site

Old North Church

USS Constitution

Bunker Hill

Old City Hall

Old State House

LITTLE ITALY

Be transported to Italy by strolling through Boston's Little Italy. The Freedom Trail will take you straight through here so you can't miss it! If you are a fan of pastries check out Mike's Pastry (although the line gets incredibly long). If you are more of a gelato person, like me, try Caffe Vittoria! Although, there are multiple places to get gelato so you can't go wrong!

SUNSET CRUISE

We ended our time in Boston chasing the sunset on a beautiful sunset cruise. Watching the sun set behind this beautiful skyline was definitely the best way to close our trip. Once the sun was set, we were able to enjoy the city lights while sipping on our favorite beverages.

EAT IN BOSTON

THE TIP TAP ROOM

This restaurant is the new up and coming place located in Beacon Hill. I ordered the the turkey burger which was toped with a cranberry sauce and Jordan ordered the steak burger. We absolutely loved the indoor outdoor vibe of this place and would defiantly recommend putting this restaurant on your list.

THE ALIBI AT THE LIBERTY HOTEL

Although I didn’t stay at this hotel I was sure to put it on my list for places to see! This Hotel actually used to be a prison which they transformed into a chic, classy, luxury hotel with a lot of character. Inside the hotel is their famous restaurant called the Alibi. It was a little on the pricier side so we decided to just go for drinks. We sat outside and let me tell you, it was a vibe!

BLACKBIRD DONUTS

If you like donuts this is the place for you! Their specialty donuts are to die for, and they're also super cute! I went during fall so I got pumpkin spiced latte, apple cider, and chocolate cupcake with halloween frosting!

FANEUIL HALL MARKETPLACE

This marketplace is also known as Quincy Market and offers over 100 stores, restaurants, and pubs. It is right on the Freedom Trail so it makes for a perfect lunch stop from your long day of walking. We decided to get lobster rolls from Boston & Maine Fish Company... when your in New England you have to get seafood right?!

SONS OF BOSTON

If you are following the Freedom Trail make this restaurant one of your stops! It is right before Marshall Street and you won't want to miss it! If you do stop here try the buffalo wings and cider beer for a fall vibe!
